Weekend in Montreux

After crossing switzerland by car we reached the beautiful Lake of Geneva. I made this short trip with my daughter and my younger son.

Switzerland is beautiful but very expensive. That`s why I decided to book a familiy room in the Youth Hostel of Montreux. It is located just a few steps from the lake. When you stay there, you get a card to use the bus for free. The reception is closed in the afternoon, so we decided to take a walk along the promenade to the city of Montreux.

Wonderful views, beautiful flowers and some art for many kilometres!

In Montreux there is a monument of Freddy Mercury who spent some time there. I think everyone takes a picture of it. Me, too.

Along the promenade you can eat, drink, listen to music, do shopping in the various shops of the city or lose your money in the oldest Casino of switzerland.

Of course it is possible to swim in the lake or make a cruise with a nice old ship.

The second day started with rain. So we took our umbrellas and walked along the lakeside to the Castle of Chillon. An impressive building on a rock in the lake.

It is so interesting to hear or read about its history by walking through the caves and climbing the stairs of the towers.

Over all there are stunning views over the lake with the mountains.

It was really worth the visit! When we left the castle, the rain had stopped and we took the promenade back.

In the afternoon we wanted to visit the “Villa Le Lac”, built by the famous architect Le Corbusier in 1923 for his parents. But this house wasn`t easy to find. At last, a bus driver gave us the right tip. But!! Arriving there the villa was closing and it wasn`t possible to go inside! What a pity.

One more reason to come back and visit Montreux again. Maybe at the time of the yearly Montreux Jazz Festival.
